Preparing for a Performance

You have to prepare both mentally ad physically. It simply isn't enough to know your choreography or know your music, but you also have understand that you have to have the right mindset before any performance.

Mental Preparation: There are three things that affect your mental readiness.
1. Do not think about making a mistake or how you're going to react to a mistake. You have to simply trust your abilities and understand that you will power through it and get the result. Use training time to work on reaction time and recovery. Trust that this recovery practice is enough.
2. Envision yourself dominating the performance, dancing powerfully and enjoying the experience. Imagine a hyped audience and you amping them up.
3. Dance for yourself, for your enjoyment and ignore all other influences. Ignore who is in the audience or how big the event is. Just dance for the love of doing the routine and dancing to the music.
4. Set a plan and road map for how you emphasize the routine and what and when you are providing energy and enthusiasm. Don't come out with full energy and die at the end. Always end with high energy.

Physical Preparation:
1. It is more important that you understand the music and listen to it hundreds of times. This will save you in a performance in the case of a mistake or if you are overly excited or enthusiastic.
2. Make sure to listen to the song multiple times and know the count of every hit and accent. Literally map out the song multiple times.
