There are four stages of performing and particularly important to follows is achieving the level comfort that allows you to be dynamic, powerful, confident, beautiful and ultimately emote and connect with your audience.
1. First stage of any choreography is when you're simply learning the movement and your relation to the audience is not even considered. Often you might not be facing them or there's no emotion.
2. You begin doing choreography with correct angles, you know when to face the audience and you start practicing looking at audience. During this stage you are kind of like a deer in the headlights: you're beginning to execute moves properly but the control of facial expressions isn't present.
3. Confidence, poise and how you look to the audience are the major considerations and the movement at this point seems automatic. This is where you begin to look good with your poses and sharpness/smoothness is present.
4. Not only are you executing moves precisely with grace, power and ease, but you begin to use your facial expressions to bring something extra that differentiates doing a choreography and truly performing/acting or emoting. Essentially you are now choreographing not only angles and when you look at the audience but exactly how you are going to look at them in each particular moment on stage.
