Feeling Light

For a follow:
1. If you feel pressure in your hand (if the lead feels pressure on his finger) then you are not light in that moment. Learn to hate that feeling.
2. Engage your core consistently and relax your upper body.
3. Have a strong six. The stronger the prep the easier to execute the move.
4. Generate momentum from the hips.
5. The faster the song and the faster the reaction time required, the faster the follow should bring in her arm/feet towards the core.
6. Try to become more sensitive to micro-signals within the hand given by the lead, whether to accelerate or to change direction.
7. Simply being aware that you're heavy and that you need to be lighter makes a significant difference. There is a subconscious response in dancing that allows your body to make micro-adustments without you realizing and ultimately gets you to your goal. This is probably also true for the increased sensitivity to pressure in the hand once your realize what's going.
For a lead:
1. The greater level of precision, the lighter the lead can be. The goal is light yet clear. 2. Leading closer to the follow, smaller arm movements, tighter to the upper body (above the diaphragm). 3. Understand when to generate maximum preparation. 4. Only use the minimum amount of energy to lead and decelerate out of spins. 5. Engage your core consistently and relax your upper body.
