A Lesson In Sickling

We often talk about tensing the inside of the legs while spinning an attempt to hold your axis better. Particularly important in all dance is to remove sickling: Inline image 1
As you go into releve you'll notice the desire to turn your ankle. This can put undue pressure on the ligaments of your outer ankle and will also cause you to lose your axis. Tightening the inner legs will keep this from happening, but this is only part of the solution. Tightening the gluteal muscles will significantly help to decrease sickling and will help your balance while you spin.
